If you have been to a Best Buy store recently, you have no doubt noticed that most all retail staff are carrying 2 way radios. This is just one example of how stores are using wireless communication for things like checking inventory, calling for price checks and additional assistance.
Many retail stores are using off the shelf FRS (Family Radio Service) radios instead of going the licensed business communication route. This is cheaper but a mistake in the long run for privacy and durability of the equipment used.
Although more expensive, digital radios offer enhanced privacy.
The days of using overhead public address systems should be over! A clean up on isle 13 should now be handled using 2 way radios and retailers are starting to figure that out.
It is unfortunate that most retailers are not using FCC assigned and licensed frequencies. Some will regret the lower price option when a prankster gets on their channel and calls all sales staff to the front of the store!
